SC Villa is undergoing an unprecedented period as it transits into a trusteeship. It is a progressive process all club stakeholders should embrace and be part of. However, there remains a few gray areas and sticking points but those are issues that can ably be addressed by the soon-to-be-formed club congress.
What is needed most at the moment is to drum up support for the process that so far has not yet lived up to the expectation, especially when it comes to members’ registration for Shs 50,000.
Nonetheless, Villa has the capacity to reach 10,000 by the end of the year. I believe so because Villa still has the biggest fan base in the country and this is evident whenever it raises the bar of competition. Currently, KCCA and Vipers may be the bigger brands as far as funding is concerned, but anyone who has followed Ugandan football for some time knows it is the Jogoos – and to some extent Express FC – are the real fans powerhouses in Ugandan football.
Unfortunately, their houses are rarely in order because of underhand from magogo. Which brings me back to the trusteeship process that needs vibrancy to be absorbed in fans’ hearts.
Whereas the current leadership has chosen to personally call out the fans, the reason it is not getting much-needed attention is because there is little-to-no involvement of the club powerbrokers; people who know what it means to be in the hot seat and keep the club afloat.
By now, we should be seeing former club leaders like Franco Mugabe, Fred Muwema, Ssalongo Semmanda and myself drumming up support for this initiative.
Ironically i have not seen Franco Mugabe, Owk Umar Mandela, Guy kawuma publically supporting the exercise, this sends a bad signal to the fans
Personally have been kept in the dark and restricted to follow club activities from the press.
For one, Muwema has a legion of corporate Villa fans that look up to him for direction. Besides, he has a track record of wooing sponsors. If he comes on board, expect hundreds to join the bandwagon.
People need to see all historicals behind Eng Nkemba because they have been claiming to love Villa more then the rest, it looks they are detached from the process
Personally, I have received calls from a number of these individuals and former branch coordinators , many of whom bankrolled club activities, trying to understand the dynamics of the new Villa arrangement before they can commit themselves. The pessimism in their tone is an indication they are yet to feel embraced yet leading a club like Villa is a service that requires one to reach out to the ordinary fans.
These are people who want to feel associated to the club. Villa needs them and it is not vice versa. These fans make a difference by influencing others to join the cause.
You can't sell your products under the bed, get to all print, electronic and social media outlets should all be talking about the process
Therefore, this is a process that needs as many Villa figures as possible, starting with former club presidents.
